| 1.What
are adhesives? |
Adhesives
are polymer/highly polymer modified
cement / epoxy based products suitable
for fixing glazed ceramic wall &
floor tiles, marble, natural stones,
etc. In interior and exterior situations. |
| |
| 2.
What are the benefits / advantages we
get when we use BAL ENDURA adhesives
compared to the traditional method of
fixing? |
| Provides strong
bonding, saves time because of faster
fixing rate, reduces the density of
the spread material due to the lesser
bed thickness. Can be used on almost
all background, consistent quality and
100% bonding between tile and the background
surface. Water resistant, good water
retention, long open time, etc. |
| |
| 3.
What is meant by grout and what are
its benefits compared to white cement? |
Grout is a
high quality product, fine, water
resistant designed for grouting glazed
wall tiles, mosaics, vitrified and
fully vitrified tiles, ceramic floor
tiles, industrial floor tiles, etc.
Benefits
Enhances the appearance of tiles.
Available in different colors that
acts as a compliment or contrast to
the tile, thus enhancing the appearance
of tile.
Epoxy grouts have high degree of resistance
to chemical attack. Also the cured
epoxy grout does not transfer taints
to foodstuffs, does not permit the
entry of bacteria or dirt and is easily
maintained in sterile condition.

| 4.
What is the coverage with BAL ENDURA
adhesive? |
| Coverage depends
on the nature and flatness of surface
and also method of application. But
at 3mm bed thickness and at plumb level
it is approximately 3.5kg / metre square.
Coverage will be good if the surface
is clean, smooth, plumb level and free
from defects and undulation. |
| |
| 5.
What adhesive can be used to fix tiles
on existing wooden background? |
| Flex powder
and liquid is the product. This comes
in two different colors, white and
grey and it is a two part system comprising
of rubber based powder and acrylic
based liquid. This is especially suitable
for use in areas where tiling is likely
to be subjected to limited background
movement or vibration. |
| |
|
6. Do you have different products for
different situations? |
Yes we do have
a wide range of products for different
situations like
Interiors - silver star; exterior
– gold star; swimming pools
– diamond star; large granite
/ marble slabs – gold star /
white star + admix ad1; glass mosaics
– diamond star, etc. For further
information please refer the product
data sheet. |
| |
7.
Why BAL ENDURA’s products and
not other products? |
BAL ENDURA
have a full fledged manufacturing
setup wherein all the raw materials
are procured from quality conscious
suppliers, also the raw materials
are tested for its quality and consistency
in the laboratory. The manufacturing
process is fully automated wherein
the raw materals are pneumatically
conveyed and stored in silos to avoid
any contamination and to maintain
the quality for a long period. The
manufactured product is tested as
per bs 5980:1980 (specification for
adhesives for use with ceramic tiles
and mosaics) and tests like shear
adhesion and tensile adhesion are
tested in the laboratory with the
use of tensile testing machine which
is controlled by digital acquisition
system. |

Is there any product for fixing big
slabs on a fresh plastered surface where
there is undulation upto 25mm? |
| Yes, we have a
product called mortar bed which is a
two part system comprising of mortar
bed powder and mortar bed liquid. This
product provides an enhanced mortar
suitable for bedding tiles, stones,
slabs, etc. Mortar bed liquid enhances
the performance and charactersitics
of the powder. |

What is the difference between cement-polymer
based grout and epoxy grout? |
Cement –
polymer based grout is based on cement
and polymers as the name suggests whereas
epoxy grout is based on resin, hardener
and filler.
Epoxy grout is resistant to most of
the chemicals whereas cement –
polymer grout is not. (refer epoxy grout
data sheet)
Mechanical properties like compression
strength and tensile strength of epoxy
grout is almost 100% higher compared
to cement – polymer grout.
The finish of epoxy grout surface will
be glossy compared to cement –
polymer grout.
Epoxy grout can be used in sterile conditions
and it has a very good resistance to
mould growth compared to cement –
polymer grout.
Epoxy grout can be used to a joint width
of between 2 - 20mm whereas cement –
polymer grout can be used only between
2 – 6mm. |
| |
| 10.
Can the performance of cement-polymer
grout enhanced? |
| Yes it can be
enhanced by adding admix gt1 as per
the recommended proportion. Addition
of admix gt1 greatly enhances the mechanical
properties like compression strength,
tensile strength, etc. It also increases
the chemical resitance of cement-polymer
grout. |

Though the product carries a ten year
guarantee, in some places there had
been debonding of tiles at very early
stages of fixing i.e. after few days
/ after few weeks / after few months.
What is the reason? |
The main reason
for this is improper application. I.e
application instructions are not followed
properly.
Suitable trowel might not have been
used as a result in some places bed
thickness may be more or less and 100%
bonding / coverage would not have taken
place.
In some cases even before the setting
time i.e less than 24 hours trafficking
would have started.
In swimming pools after grouting the
water has to be filled only after three
weeks, but in many cases due to the
urgency the water will be filled within
3 to 4 days as a result the grout starts
coming out.
Cement-polymer grout is not resistant
to cleaning acid but to make the cleaning
process faster the tiles will be cleaned
with acid as a result the color of the
grout gets bleached.
While fixing the tile the mixed material
needs to be used for fixing within the
stipulated open time depending on the
product. But in some cases they use
the mixed material after the open time
as a result it starts debonding after
sometime.
There are so many reasons like the above.
But if the application instructions
are followed properly and carefully
there will not be any problem whatsoever. |
| |
| 12.
Is epoxy an acid proof product? |
| There has been
a misconception that epoxy grout is
acid proof which is not true. Epoxy
grout can be called as acid resistant
/ chemical resistant. I.e. depending
on the acid / chemical and its concentration
it will be resistant. For further information
on the acid / chemical resistance please
refer epoxy grout product data sheet. |

What is the difference between durafix
gold star and durafix silver star versus
gold star / silver star? |
| There is absolutely
no difference in terms of quality and
the product and the difference is only
in terms of packaging, i.e. durafix
comes in 50kg packing that is meant
for projects whereas gold star comes
in 20kg packing that is meant for dealers/retail. |
| 14.
What are the advantages / benefits of
BAL ENDURA grout compared to cement?
|
| Cement can be
used only in paper joints and if used
in slightly wider joints it cracks whereas
grout can be used upto 6mm joint widths.
Grout is easy to apply compared to
cement.
Quality of grout is consistent as
the raw material and final product
undergoes stringent quality checks
before dispatch.
Grout contains polymer that helps
during contraction and expansion.
As a result it does not crack or break
due to the tile movement under any
climatic conditions.
Grout can resist to temperatures
between - 30 deg c to 150 deg c.
Available in various colors that
are consistent without any shade variation.
Addition of admix gt1 to grout improves
water resistance, enhances durability
and hardness of grout. |
